About Tama Ariiti

Background

Born in Kugane to Lord Yuzuru Ariiti and his late wife Lady Saga Ariiti, Tama Ariiti was blessed with her mother's eyes. Much like Lady Saga, brilliant yellow limbal rings signified her connection to the stars. The ever-scheming Lord Ariiti, despite Lady Saga's protests, admitted many Astrologian tutors into her life at the earliest of ages. Determined to create another tool for House Ariiti's use; he succeeded in every measurable way. When her mother, Lady Saga passed away Tama was heartbroken. No others had shown her tenderness. Whenever those tutors enforced twelve hour study and practice sessions on Tama, her mother always had efforts to distract them and procure servants with tea. Small acts of caring had imparted precious memories on the impressionable young Lady, who didn't stop grieving. The House servants claimed Tama had gone insane, speaking to paintings and artwork like her mother stood nearby.Yet, precisely one year after her mother's passing Tama Ariiti's grief ceased. She returned to her studies two-fold, now more focused on Astrology and Divination than ever before. Twelve hour days turned into sixteen. Those yellow eyes became even more intense, glowing like supernova's at times. Some tutors left without notice (however later hunted down by the Ariiti brother's and their retainers, for breaking contract), rumor spread of her mastering a sort of magic previously used by Lady Saga for the benefit of Lord Ariiti.Pleasing her father to no end, Lord Ariiti held Tama in high regard despite her young age. At twenty five she was released into the families network of businesses. With full authority to make decisions on the House's behalf, she had become one of the most feared merchant House representatives in the East. Whispers of her eye's ability to tell lie from truth circulate the Ruby Bazaar, and Tama climbed quickly to become one of the first recognized women at the Kabunakama. She's often seen with her retainer, as is common of the Ariiti House Lords and Ladies. Miss Tensi Egan was raised in a school adjacent to House Ariiti; known for administering their retainers to the highest of Kugane's Nobility. By linking them with one another at an early age a bond is formed which reduced the likelihood of betrayal later in life, or so the school's headmaster believed. Miss Tensi was a trained warrior, ladies maid, chef, nurse, and much more. Tama was often less formal with her in private, however retaining all levels of conduct when others were present.

Personality

Expressly focused on formality, Tama Ariiti first considers her Noble status when interacting with all walks of life. You will rarely, if ever, find her addressing common-folk with more casual respect. She sees 'bending the knee' to those lower than her to be an ultimate sign of weakness, only making exceptions in key cases often guided by her father's missives.Pompous, was an understatement if used to described Tama. Only those she respected to the utmost degree would find her willing to tolerate their presence for longer than was absolutely necessarily.Tama Ariiti often refers to herself in the plural, using words like 'we', 'us', and 'our'. This has been known to be unsettling to her hosts, or guests. However, when particularly emotional her tone shifts to the singular 'I', 'my', 'me', and 'myself'. Few are certain as to why this phenomenom occurs.

His Lordship's Missive (Short)

Tama Ariiti opened one end of the balsa wood scroll box, carefully peeling back a wax seal with her House's sigil presed into it. The wax removed, she held both sides in each hand and unscrewed them counter to one another. Both halves came loose, revealing the rolled paper within. Delicately Tama unwound the missive, her brilliant eyes set on learning what Lord Ariiti would have of her, seeing as the ship was almost upon Southern Eorzea.

My Dearest Tama-san,Dock at Crescent Cove. Consult with our allies. Make known your presence to the Syndicate, and Sapphire Avenue. Do what you will to secure House Ariiti's sponsorship within the Confluence, and do not hesitate to cause hierarchal reform should you judge it necessary. Once the sponsorship is secure, and you have determined the means through which the Confluence exchanges information with its agents, we will have no need for our existing representative. She will not be engaged again to another Noble.Burn this scroll.~Lord Yuzuru Ariiti, your loving father

Eyes flaring a dangerous, superheated white-light, as the scroll fell to ash in her hands. Tama Ariiti strode to the helm of her ship as sailors hurried away - knowing their presence was nothing but a nuisance for her ladyship. While the boat eased its way across steady ocean waves, Tama let her mind go free of Eorzea. Drifting into an aetherial plane, one created quite some time ago. Less crowded, more empty. Entirely silent. Stars shone here, in their own way. Every time she projected into this realm, she ended up closer to the Astral pole within the sea. If only Aetherologists weren't so scared of her sharing this experience with them... Regardless - Tama could now contemplate how to best fulfill her father's wishes. Gods knew she feared failing him.

-----

She woke on a leather sofa, back stiff from the unfamiliar cushions. A blanket draped over her rather crudely, pillow propped under her neck as well. Tama slowly came back to her senses as she remembered what had happened the night before. Sensations of horror washed over every nervous center in her as she recalled an encounter: and how bloodlust had overtaken her.Later on that morning Tama found her repaired clothes neatly piled on the coffee table. When she sat up, and reached for them pain shot through her arm - Several stitches tore as well. Embarrassed, vulnerable, and feeling defeated - Tama Ariiti moved like an elderly woman whilst seeking assistance in getting dressed. She wasn't used to being this exposed. Other eyes seeing what marks lay on an otherwise perfect hide. Sigils of obedience, as her family so aptly called them.'Sigils of hate.' Tama thought, her kimono now secured. Before she could stand, idle hands insisted she be at ease. Tea would be served soon. Many questions were at hand. There was no need to rush - and given her recent experiences - Tama was inclined to agree.

Academics (Short)

"Ciaran-sama, why do the others hate me?" the young student asked her instructor from her teak desk. "They all left! You're my only Sensei now." She grumbled."Now, Tama-san, you know better than to bring these complaints to me; I'd rather you discuss them with your father. Refocus, please - You must understand how not to end up with this problem. It would prove fatal to both you and many others." The Midlander tapped a measuring stick on the board, which indicated several celestial bodies and various numerical formulas.Ciaran had titled the lesson a 'Three star conundrum' on the chalkboard.

Tama Ariiti was brilliant. Infact, brilliant was an understatement. At age ten she had mastered the tarot. At age thirteen she could divine the location of another with as little as a strand of hair. Upon reaching fifteen, Tama was capable of conjuring the stars. This was when her instructors began to leave.Lady Saga Ariiti passed shortly thereafter. Servants gossiped, as they always do. What few whispers escaped the Ariiti brother's iron hands suggested an argument with the master of the house; Lord Ariiti. Though no-one was entirely certain what occurred, Lady Saga was last seen entering the gallery - A room filled with priceless artwork, and large skylights angled to aid in viewings during bright days. Lord Ariiti came with her, and left sometime after.Later that afternoon, the gallery's skylights glew with a light so powerful it could be seen across the Kugane skyline. Before anyone could check on this disturbance, the marble floors and walls melted in a fire so intense no response could hope to stop it. Yet, there was no need to put out further fires. Everything ceased almost immediately after - Fires, lights, and burning. Nothing remained in the gallery. Lady Saga Ariiti was gone, and all that remained in the ashes was her daughter Tama Ariiti. Sitting and crying.Rumor spread amongst her tutors, and instructors. They left in troves as fear grew. None would travel to help foster this genius. Tama locked herself in her bedroom for one years time, unwilling to converse with the world. Only Lord Ariiti tended to her with some regularity. One year later, she returned to the world. Unfeeling and highly formal. Lifeless, Tama Ariiti became the blessed eyes of the Ariiti family. Priests whispered of her mastery over her mother's eyes; said to be a blessing from the Amaterasu. Now she used them to their fullest while authorized to make decisions on behalf of Lord Ariiti himself.

"Sensei, I did it!" Tama shouted in excitement, beholding her manifestations. Nearby, Ciaran opened his window to see three sparks growing in the lawn out infront of the small instructions house Lord Ariiti had assembled for him and Tama Ariiti."Tama-san, dispell them at once!" Panicked, he rushed from the room. Hurrying to the front door in a vain attempt to reach the lawn. His pupil did not know what powers she might unleash upon them."Sensei, I can control them! Watch!" Tama's right hand twitched, fingers moving skillfully as she wove invisible threads of astral and aetheric energies. Stars were gradually forming on the lawn around her at three points, turning blue and purple as they grew from sparks into the newest of celestial bodies.Ciaran reached the lawn, and with all of his powers in hand sought to dispell the threads connecting one of the orbs. If he could simply dispell one of them, there was a chance the destruction would be minimized...Meanwhile Tama's eyes, consumed in brilliance, flared with supernova. She had received this blessing from her mother, and would use it to its fullest. Weaving threads of fateful aether, manifesting destiny in the form of stars. 'Astrological excellence was hers to command, wasn't it, mother?', the thought passed through her mind. Perhaps she could even use this power to take the Ariiti seat from her Father and Brother's some day...He severed some threads, a combination of the Malefic art and Esuna slicing through Tama's artful astral work. The girl had grown up painting on the beaches, and had a natural talent for creating aetheric works with only her mind and those Gods-forsaken eyes. Aether, no, Gravity quite literally bent to her will when she willed it.One of the stars ceased to continue growing, instead crackling angrily in its point of the triangle. Collapsing inward, space and time folding with it - A gravitational flux so intense that Sensei Ciaran was ripped forward. Tama didn't even care to notice his scream, whilst she gleefully wove the other two stars to their full potential. Blue and purple primordial gases no longer, now angry red dwarves. These turned gold, and finally mixed with yellow heat. Contained by some aetherial field, they began to rotate around one another's gravitational field."Sensei! It's finished, I--" She looked toward the schoolhouse, before frowning in disappointment. Her teacher was nowhere to be seen, yet the doors were open. And one of the stars was gone.Suddenly, the two remaining stars collided with one another. Aetherial barriers disrupted by such a violent action, both annihilated the schoolhouse and the surrounding forest. It was a wonder the young Miss Tama Ariiti survived - However rumor has it she was seen abruptly appearing in a local cafe, if by Aetheryte travel.

Hooks

  • House Ariiti is well-regarded as a greedy, highly-traditional Doman merchant House. She wears her signet ring 24/7, you might identify it based on your class.

  • Tama Ariiti is almost always followed by a ghost. This aetheric spirit is the spitting image of her, but about twenty years older. However when her mana is depleted (signified by a moodles debuff) the spirit is not present.
